Matchday is a mobile application which launched in July 2018 on iOS (Apple) and Android. It boots out the boring admin of managing a grassroots team in the affiliated game. It is the official FA grassroots administration app.

Matchday has functionality you won’t find elsewhere:

• No need to enter your fixtures. They are automatically added from The FA’s Full-Time service  (that’s if your league use Full-Time)
• No need to enter your squad details. These are automatically added from The FA’s Whole Game System;
• No need to  check suspensions : the app will show you who’s eligible to play;
• No need to use Full-Time to enter your match returns or results– submit them via the app at the tap of a button  (that’s if your league use Full-Time)

You need to be in a league where:

• Player registration has been managed via The FA’s Whole Game System (WGS);
• Your Role as a Team Manager or equivalent has been set up in WGS;
• We have your email address The FA’s Whole Game System (WGS).

The main reason you will not be able to get into the app is that we don’t have a valid email address for you in one of the systems which powers Matchday (this system is called Whole Game System)

You can get into the app in one of two ways:

1) Get in touch with your club (usually your club secretary) and ask them to add your email address to Whole Game System

2) Get your manager to invite you to the app! We want to make sure that you are who you say you are so this is what happens in the background.

When you get an invite link from your manager, you enter details into the app which we then use to check in Whole Game System. You will enter your name,  date of birth and address. If these details match what is in Whole Game System your manager will be able to add you to the app and we’ll add your email address to Whole Game System. Once you open the app, you’ll then just need to reset your password using the ‘I DON’T KNOW MY DETAILS’ button.

By the way, if you’re under 16 years old, your parent or guardian will need to create an account for you.

To have an FA account and to be able to use Matchday you need to be 16 years old.

Your league set your fixtures in Full-Time. We take those fixtures and put them in the app. If they are wrong, please contact your league.

Your league has a number of options when it comes to ‘approval’ and locking i.e. when the league decided to ‘lock’ your results or stats so you are unable to edit them

If any of the results are ‘locked’ in Matchday it could be because your league has decided to lock them accordingly to better manage their games.

That could be because you don’t have a valid role (i.e. Coach, assistant coach, team manager or assistant team manager in Whole Game System) - OR, we don’t have a valid email address for you.

Simply get in touch with your club to add you properly to the system.

How do I add players to the app?

Matchday is fully integrated with current FA systems which makes your life easier. The app will automatically do the following for you:

• Display all fixtures, results and league tables from Full-Time
• Allow you to capture availability from your players for these fixtures from Full-Time
• Automatically populate your squad from WGS including discipline data so you can tell who has a red card
• Submit your scores to Full-Time via the app (no need to SMS these in)
• After the game, you can even submit your match report or match return via the app too meaning less work off the pitch

No. You can submit all your match returns from the app, direct to Full-Time. That includes the final score so no need to SMS these in anymore.

No. Matchday will only display and import existing players who have been officially registered via your league.

You need to have an email address and one of the following roles in The FA’s Whole Game System:

• Team manager
• Assistant team manager
• Coach
• Assistant coach

Still can’t get in the app?

1. Contact your club admin to confirm you have the one of the above roles assigned to you – and that your email address is in The FA’s Whole Game System;
2. If you still can’t get in, contact: Matchday@TheFA.com

The likely reason is that your league does not use The FA’s Full-Time service  or it has yet to be set up for the 19/20 season.

No, you must still go through official channels to register a new player to your team. Contact your club secretary to activate this process.

Click on the player’s name and tap on ‘ADD TO APP’. This will give the player/parent access to the app. 

Information provided on the player during registration doesn’t match the information in The FA’s Whole Game System. They must match to ensure a safe and secure environment.

We suggest you get in touch with your club secretary and ask them to add or check the player’s email address in Whole Game System as it needs to match so they can login to Matchday.

In some instances, if we do not have an email address for a player, the team manager or coach will still be able to invite them to the app.

They can do this by sharing a link with the player from within the app.

Once the player receives the link they can create a profile. If the player profile matches with the data we have in The FA’s Whole Game System (WGS), we will allow the team manager or coach to add the player to the app.

If the personal information supplied does not match the WGS data, the player must get their club to update their account within the WGS.

All your squad information on the app comes straight from The FA’s Whole Game System. If you’re missing a player, contact your club secretary to check they are definitely registered on The FA’s Whole Game System (WGS).

The club affiliation process must have started for us to transfer the latest information. The quickest way to do this is to ask your club to simply go into the WGS and click the ‘Start affiliation’ button. Nothing else.

If your club secretary has confirmed the player is in the WGS but they are still missing from the app, please contact us below:

Yes. You can have multiple team managers or coaches for each team.

All your club needs to do is ensure you have a valid email address and a valid manager role (coach, assistant coach, team manager or assistant team manager) in The FA’s Whole Game System (WGS). If you have a role listed in the WGS but want to provide your email address, please contact us below:

No. After speaking to a lot of team managers and coaches, we’ve agreed this wouldn’t be helpful to overall team management. 

Yes. We will notify you when this has happened. But please keep your notifications on.

Yes. But please do this within your league rules.  Some leagues do not allow you to change your kick-off time or venue. The functionality in the app should only be used to confirm the kick-off time. Please keep all referees, opposition and other officials involved when changing kick-off times or venues.

No. Referees are not on Matchday. You must still contact the referee. 

No. We have not built this functionality yet. But this could well be a future enhancement.

Not if you use Matchday.  You can submit a match return using Matchday – saving you more time than ever.

You can still log in to Full-Time to submit a match return or edit an existing match return, however, we recommend you do this through the app, saving you time so you can worry about the important things.

Yes. If you are using Matchday to submit a match return and your opponent is using Full-Time to submit theirs, that’s fine. 

You will still receive a reminder to text in your score, however, as long as you do this through the app we’ll send it to Full-Time as usual.

All suspensions and discipline information in the app come straight from The FA’s Whole Game System. So please check with your club secretary before fielding a potentially suspended/ineligible player.

Yes. However, for any under-16 players we require a parent login. You can help your parents use the app by getting your club secretary to add the player’s parents’ email address to The FA’s Whole Game System. If you have further issues please contact us below:

These are players that have not been league registered just yet! We recommend you get your league to register them so you can add them to your team sheet and match return or match report. You can always edit this from the app until your league lock the results in.

When you have successfully submitted a match report or return, you will immediately see a green confirmation bar when scrolling up the screen, however, you can see match returns you’ve submitted in the app because the ‘REPORT’ tab will have a tick next to it.

This is likely because the system which allows the match return to be sent to Full-Time is down. Please try again later or log directly into Full-TIme to do this.

To submit a match return or report, mandatory fields are required to be completed both from The FA and your league. Some of these mandatory fields are referee marks, respect marks and team marks. We have tried to make this as easy as possible to use, saving you time so you can focus on the important things.

Please note, if you have marked a referee with a score lower than 60 we require information relating to this (a minimum of 50 characters is required).

Your league will create a set of questions they require you to complete. We will automatically add them into the app for you to complete.

Tap ‘ADD GAME EVENT’ to add a goalscorer. Please note - the player needs to be a registered league player AND you need to have included them on your team sheet.

Simply tap on the game event to edit or delete what you’ve entered before submitting a match return to Full-Time from the app.

To ensure an accurate team sheet, please confirm your players once you’ve selected them for your starting lineup or subs. We will not tell players if they are on the bench or starting line up, we simply tell them they have been picked to play.

This functionality is not live currently. Please keep an eye out for improvements we make to Matchday.

Your league has locked your score in - to make amends to this, please get in touch with your league directly.

Another team manager or coach in your team is making changes to the app / score / match return / team sheet.

Your team/club needs to be playing in a league which uses The FA’s Full-Time service or registers their players in The FA’s Whole Game System.

If they do, you can download the app. You will be asked to enter an email address. If we already have an email address for you, you will be asked for your password. If you have forgotten your password, you can easily reset it.

If we don’t already have an email address, here’s what you do:

Players:  In some instances, if we do not have an email address for a player, the team manager or coach will still be able to invite them to the app.

They can do this by sharing a link with the player from within the app.

Once the player receives the link they can create a profile. If the player profile matches with the data we have in The FA’s Whole Game System (WGS), we will allow the team manager or coach to add the player to the app.

If the personal information supplied does not match the WGS data, the player must get their club to update their account within the WGS.

To ensure the overall safety of our users, we require you to have a linked account with your child if you are their parent or guardian. To do this, please get in touch with your club admin who will ensure you have an account.

The app will allow you to:

• Give availability on their behalf (letting their coach know that they can play)
• See results / fixtures or league tables

Research shows that children enjoy the game more by creating the right environment for them to play in. This means allowing them to play with freedom, allowing them to make mistakes and encouraging them to make their own decisions – untroubled by score lines. It’s a philosophy called ‘Let Them Play’.
